The Shakers have become noted for the quality and sincerity of their "downhome" New Orleans style. Their philosophy is to go back to basics. It is not easy to find jazz of this purity and integrity in New Orleans today.

The Shakers (as The Louisiana Shakers are universally known) are more than a bit of a phenomenon. They enjoy world-wide popularity in a modern era. It's phenomenal because they play New Orleans music in the Rediscovery Style. This was the way of playing jazz that blossomed throughout the world in the wake of the finding of Bunk Johnson and other jazzmen who had continued to play in the Crescent City during the 30's and 40's.

Nick Polites has never sounded better on record...

Charles plays with his usual droll eloquence, while Coughdrop's lead has a ghostly, wistful echo of good Colyer"
